Jordan’s King Arrives in Kuwait for Bilateral, Regional Talks
Jordan’s King Abdullah arrived in Kuwait on Sunday for talks with the emir, Sheikh Jaber Al Sabah, on the development of bilateral relations between the two countries and the latest developments in the region, reported the official Jordanian news agency, Petra.
The Jordanian monarch held talks Sunday with Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Abdullah Al Sabah and Foreign Minister Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Subah Ahmad Al Sabah, the agency added.
“Talks during the two meetings focused on the practical steps to activate bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and development of cooperation in several fields, in addition to the efforts exerted to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people,” said a statement.
King Abdullah, the president of the current Arab summit, was assigned by the leaders at the March meeting to follow up on the 'Iraqi Case,' and try to reach a compromise to end the conflict between Iraq and Kuwait.
The speaker of the Kuwaiti parliament, Jassem Mohammad Al Khorafi, told reporters that he "hopes that King Abdullah will listen to government's views regarding the issue of Kuwaiti prisoners of war held in Iraq and the agony of their families and loved ones."
"I hope the king's visit will enable him to contribute to efforts to secure the release of the Kuwaiti POWs," he said, quoted by the official Kuwait news agency (KUNA).
Khorafi, meanwhile, stressed that Arab states should work towards consolidation of regional stability, and strengthening their security, and confronting "the common enemy" rather than engaging in inter-Arab squabbles.
"Kuwait is not seeking to convey a message to King Abdullah during his visit, because our clear and straightforward message had already been delivered to all Arab leaders during the Amman Arab summit last march," said the speaker.
