Jordan’s King Calls on Arabs, Israelis to Seize Historic Opportunity to Make Peace
Jordan’s King Abdullah II, inaugurating in Amman Sunday the 103rd conference of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) with the participation of 138 states, affirmed that there was a historic opportunity to establish peace and reach accord among peoples of the Middle East.
The Jordanian monarch, in his speech at the opening session, urged the concerned states to seize this opportunity, saying, "it is about time to make the peace which we have aspired. It’s about time to overcome our disagreements, conflicts and shift our efforts to investment in the future."
In his address to the Arabs and Israelis, King Abdullah said, "the time has come to establish justice, security and accept the others’ beliefs, rights, aspirations which are necessary to ensure a prosperous future for our peoples."
The king, who was addressing 1,400 participants representing 138 states, international and regional organizations, said the parties involved in the peace process should resolve the remaining regional conflicts that have caused hardships to many families."
The monarch shed light on current global economic conditions, asserting that economic interests have become dominating over politics.
He asserted necessity that the wealth in the world should be distributed between the developing and developed countries on equal basis and called for tackling what he termed gaps hindering economic globalization.
The king asserted importance of the IPU conference, due to open officially tomorrow, in regard of the quest for freedom, democracy, human rights and equality – (Agencies).
