Jordan, Syria Launch Joint Industrial Zone
Jordan and Syria have finally opened up a joint industrial zone Saturday, 25 years after agreeing to do so, where businesses will receive tax exemptions.
Over the past few days, some 70 Syrian and Jordanian investors have sought permission to start projects in the six square kilometer (two square mile) zone in the border region of Jaber, a Jordanian official said.
The zone was conceived in a 1975 economic treaty, but was delayed as relations between Damascus and Amman soured -- AMMAN (AFP)
