Jordanian - Syrian summit held in Amman
Jordan's King Abdullah II received on Wednesday the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad who arrived in Amman on a few hours visit. According to Petra, the two leaders held talks on the latest political developments in the region and means of enhancing and developing bilateral relations in the various fields.
Upon arrival at Marka military airport, President Assad was officially received by the King, Jordanian prime minister and senior officials.
Following the talks, <i>Petra</i> reported both leaders affirmed their support to the new Palestinian leadership as well as the need to rally international support to this leadership in its quest to establish a viable independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian national soil.
They also stressed their support to efforts of the Palestinian authority to restore security and build institutions.
On Iraq, the Jordanian king underlined the importance of preserving Iraq's unity and stability and deemed the recent elections in Iraq as an important step towards enabling Iraqis to chart a better future for their country.
