Kadhafi Arrives in Saudi Arabia
Libyan leader Moammer Kadhafi arrived in Saudi Arabia by road from Jordan Tuesday and, after spending the night in a tent, he will drive a further 550 kilometers to the capital Riyadh, according to a Libyan diplomatic source.
AFP reported that Kadhafi is expected to arrive in Riyadh late Wednesday.
Kadhafi, whose tour of Arab nations has already taken him to Egypt, Jordan and Syria, will meet Saudi King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah for discussions on the violence between Palestinians and Israeli forces, according to Reuters.
They will also discuss the Arab summit Egypt is holding in Cairo on October 21-22.
Kadhafi's visit to Saudi Arabia is the first in more than 20 years, said Reuters.
The Libya leader had voiced skepticism about the summit, saying he opposed it unless it called for war or an economic boycott against Israel.
He later said he did not oppose the summit, although he was unconvinced of its effectiveness, but Lebanese government sources told AFP Tuesday he had informed President Emile Lahoud he would not attend.
Kadhafi, in a message to Lahoud, said he "refused to attend the summit ... because of a lack of preparations," while proposing instead a meeting at the level of foreign ministers, the sources said - (Several Sources)
