Khatami Proposes a Four-Point Mideast Peace Plan

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami on Sunday proposed a four-point Middle East peace plan centered on a multi-faith Palestinian state.
Khatami called for the "return of all Palestinian refugees to Palestine" and a referendum of the original Muslim, Jewish and Christian inhabitants of the former Palestine to decide on a future form of government.
The aim of the referendum would be to establish a democratic Palestinian state over the whole of historical Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital, he said.
The plan was aimed at bringing about a "settlement to the Middle East crisis and the return of calm to the region", Khatami said in his capacity as outgoing president of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) summit in Doha.
