At least ten Iraqis killed in ongoing violence as five US troops die
Gunmen killed the drivers of two trucks traveling west of Baghdad on Wednesday and then set fire to the vehicles. The trucks were reportedly carrying goods for the US army.
Two other people were killed and 20 wounded in a marketplace in the town of Khalis after a car bomb exploded, according to Reuters. A second market bombing in the town of Tal Afar left two civilians dead as well.
Two Iraqi army soldiers were killed in the civilian car they were traveling in in central Baiji, north of Baghdad.
Also on Wednesday, the bodies of three men were discovered by Iraqi security forces in the nation’s capital
Earlier in the day, gunmen in Baghdad killed three government employees on their way to work Wednesday, police said. An internal affairs officer at the Interior Ministry was shot dead while leaving his house in Amil in western Baghdad. A Housing Ministry employee was shot dead as he drove to work in the same neighborhood, police said.
In northern Baghdad, gunmen killed an Oil Ministry worker at a bus stop, police said.
Also in Baghdad, a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol killed three Iraqi civilians and one policeman on Wednesday, police said, according to Reuters. The attack in Waziriya district also wounded four people.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military reported the deaths of five more soldiers, including three died Tuesday in a roadside bombing north of Baghdad. These latest casualties raised the U.S. death toll so far in April to at least 31 - the same for all of March, according to the Associated Press.
In reporting the bombing that killed three American troops Tuesday, the U.S. Army also declared the deaths of two other soldiers in combat Sunday. One suffered fatal wounds in Anbar province west of Baghdad and the other died by a roadside bomb near Balad, the military said.
Attacks on Tuesday killed at least 23. A car bombing killed five people, and three others were killed when a bomb went off on a minibus, both attacks in Shiite areas of Baghdad, police said.
In addition, police found the bodies of 24 people. Most of the bodies were found in Baghdad, police said.
