Lebanese MP: There is Implicit Understanding between Lebanon and Palestinians Regarding Occupied South
The Lebanese and the Palestinians covertly agree that the Lebanese Shabaa farms should be liberated from the Israeli occupation, according to a Lebanese member of parliament.
Commenting on the death of two Palestinian armed men in the disputed farms area this week, MP Marwan Fares said the incident will not break up the efforts of both sides to adopt a joint strategy to liberated the Lebanese land and support the Palestinian Intifada.
Two Palestinian members of a Syrian-based group were killed and a third wounded by Israeli fire in the area on Friday.
It was the first time that armed Palestinians had been found in the area since the Israelis ended their occupation of southern Lebanon in May last year.
However, Fares said that Palestinian armed struggle on the Lebanese land is not on the agenda for the time being, stressing that the major aim of the military operations is the liberation of the land and freeing the detainees in Israeli prisons.
“Each side has a role to play and we seek the integration of both roles,” he said.
According to the MP, who is a leader of the Lebanese Socialist Pan-National Syrian Party, there are two views regarding Palestinian armed activities in Lebanon. The government and other parties say that any anti-Israeli operation carried out by Palestinians should be initiated from within Palestine, meanwhile others, including Fares’s party, say that the Palestinian Intifada should not be restricted by political borders and that the conflict with Israel should be an open one.
Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri has voiced his reservation to any military action taken by Palestinians on Lebanese territory. In the mean time, a large conference of pan-nationalists and Islamists, which was underway in Lebanon, called for the removal of all restrictions on anti-Israeli military operations executed by all factions: Palestinian or others.
For his part, Secretary General of Hizbollah, which spearheaded resistance against the Israeli occupation of the south, threatened to capture more Israeli soldiers unless Israel releases all Arab prisoners – Albawaba.com
