Lebanese honorary consul assassinated in Togo
Lebanon’s honorary consul for the West African state of Benin, Assaad Shaghouri, was gunned down by unknown assailants in neighboring Togo where he was about to inaugurate a private business, media reports said Thursday.
MTV reported that Shaghouri, a well-known businessman, was assassinated in the Togo city of Lomé when gunmen opened fire at his car as it stopped at a red light.
Shaghouri was killed instantly and his driver was seriously injured.
There was no information about the motives of the crime.
Shaghouri was in Lome, just over the border from Benin’s economic capital Cotonou to inaugurate a new private business.
The incident happened days after a Lebanese was shot and killed during an attempted burglary in Abidjan, former capital of the Ivory Coast.
