Russia's Foreign Minister told reporters Tuesday that a new U.N. humanitarian resolution on Syria is "absolutely one-sided" and unacceptable, and the Syrian ambassador to Russia told reporters that the "most dangerous" chemical weapons in the country's stockpile will be removed by March 1 from the country.

As the U.N. finished evacuating some 700 people from the besieged city of Homs over the weekend, a fresh round of peace talks between the Syrian regime and opposition began in Switzerland.

The militant group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were ousted from Syria's eastern province of Deir Ezzor on Monday after a hard three-day battle with Islamist rebels, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
Some 1,800 residents remain trapped in a blockaded area of Homs as the U.N. struggles to evacuate the city's besieged residents, 700 of whom have been removed from Homs since Friday.
