Lebanon's Health Ministry Declares War on Lethal Mosquitoes
Health officials urged Lebanese on Friday to spray stagnant water with insecticides and report any unexplained illnesses, steps to guard against two mosquito-borne viruses blamed for deaths elsewhere in the region, the Daily Star reported on Saturday.
The paper quoted the Lebanese Health Minister Karam Karam as saying through the local radio station "no cases of West Nile Virus or Rift Valley Fever have been reported in Lebanon.”
According to Health Ministry official Nabil Salam, an outbreak of the virus in Lebanon depends on whether migrating birds from regions in Africa, where the virus is prevalent, pass through the country.
