Libya appoints new PM in major cabinet reorganization
Libya on Sunday announced the appointment of Baghdadi El Mahmoudi as the new prime minister as part of a major reorganization of the nation's cabinet.
Mahmoudi will replace Shukri Ghanem, who was seen as an advocate of economic reforms, according to the AP.
Ghanem was reportedly appointed head of the National Oil Corporation, Xinhuanet quoted Libya's top legislative and executive body, the General People's Congress, as saying.
Seven new ministries were also created in the move, including the ministry of agriculture, transportation, education, health, housing, and social affairs.
A new ministry of industry and electricity was also created in place of the former energy ministry.
The post of deputy prime minister will be filled by Mohammed Hwij, while Ali al-Hasnawi will serve as justice minister, and Ahmed Munsi as finance minister.
The Ministry of Social Affairs will be headed by Bakhita al-Shalawi.
