Libyan FM Arrives in Moscow on Historic Trip
Libyan Foreign Minister Abdul Rahman Shalgham arrived in Moscow Sunday on a historic three-day visit to Moscow, the first by a Libyan foreign minister, ITAR-TASS news agency reported.
Shalgham was to have talks with his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Ilia Klebanov, who will lead discussions on military and industrial matters.
Shalgham is also due to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, ITAR-TASS said, although there was no official confirmation of this.
Russia in May last year resumed economic and diplomatic ties with its long-standing North African ally after the UN Security Council lifted seven-year-old international sanctions against Libya.
Libya unlocked the sanctions problem by handing over two suspects to face trial for the December 1988 bombing of a Pan Am Boeing 747 over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people - MOSCOW (AFP)
