In recent days, Sahwa forces have increasingly come under attack by Islamic militants. The Sahwa fighters joined forces with the U.S. military at the height of the war to fight Al Qaeda. Since then, they have been labeled as traitors by Sunni militants who have targeted them in a series of deadly attacks.
