In Morocco: Suspected al-Qaeda members go on trial; case adjourned until December

Ten people suspected by Moroccan authorities of belonging to Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist network went on trial in Casablanca, Morocco Monday, but the case was adjourned upon the request of the defense until December 25th, AFP said. The three Saudi nationals and seven Moroccans were detained by Moroccan security services back in the month of May.
They are accused of planning to blow up NATO warships in the Strait of Gibraltar, using rubber dinghies packed with explosives, and of plotting attacks on cafes in the tourist town of Marrakesh and on Moroccan buses.
The trial was delayed after the appeal court, which hears criminal cases in the first instance in Morocco, accepted a request by defense lawyers for around a dozen witnesses be called to give evidence in the case. (Albawaba.com)
