Moussa Arrives in Kuwait to Discuss Restructuring of Arab League
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa arrived late Sunday in Kuwait, saying that the restructuring of the body would be on the agenda for his talks with Kuwaiti officials, reported the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
"The talks with the Kuwaiti leaders will cover current plans to develop the mechanism of the Arab League and its reform program," Moussa said on his arrival for a two-visit to the emirate.
"The development of the Arab League will cover all Arab action and not only that of the general secretariat," Moussa added, saying that "each of the Arab countries will assume responsibilities" in the context of the planned restructuring.
Moussa also said his discussions would cover "the question of Kuwait prisoners held in Iraqi prisons and Kuwaiti possessions in Iraq," said KUNA.
Earlier, Moussa made a brief visit to Saudi Arabia that focused on the Middle East conflict and plans to restructure his organization, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
During his visit of several hours to the Red Sea city of Jeddah, Moussa met separately with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al Faisal and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdelaziz.
He added that he had revealed "details of a restructuring plan for the Arab League and the role of Saudi Arabia in the restructuring."
The meeting of the Arab League committee was called by the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and will focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Arab League committee groups Egypt, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the Palestinian Authority.
The GCC, headed by Saudi Arabia, also comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates – Albawaba.com
