New Press Law to be Passed soon in Oman
A new press and publication law, designed to allow more freedom to journalists in Oman, will be passed soon, a senior member of Majlis Al Shura was quoted as saying by the Gulf News.
The official told the paper that the bill, drafted by the Majlis's education and culture committee, was discussed by the 83-member house at its last ordinary session in January.
“The new law derives its strength from the 1996 Basic Law, Oman's first written constitution which lays emphasis on human rights, freedom of expression and judicial independence,” he said.
