Next Syria government to include opposition figures
Syrian sources on Thursday were quoted as saying that later this month the formation of new government including figures from "the national opposition" will be announced. The sources said contacts are expected to begin early next week in preparation for the formation of a new government, which will include the Syrian national opposition, The sources expected the government to start its work early next month.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Adnan Khudayr denied Chairman of the Operations Chamber of the Arab Observer Mission has denied that the Arab League had decided to suspend sending observers to Syria. However, Khudayr called on the Syrian authorities to provide protection to the observers. "The Arab League will send by the end of next week some 40 new observers," he told Al-Jazeera TV.
Earlier it was reported that the Arab League would delay sending more observers to Syria after his team of observers came under attacks. At least 11 of them were slightly wounded in Latakia, a few days ago.
The Arab League has blamed the attack on some of the protesters, but the Syrian authorities took responsibility for the failure to protect the observers. The Arab League said in a stern statement that the Damascus government breached its obligation to provide protection to the mission of Arab observers. It considered that the failure to provide adequate protection in Latakia and other areas of deployment "is a substantial and serious breach of the obligations by the Syrian government."
