Procter & Gamble Gulf (P&G Gulf) today announced its support campaign for the Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for the 6th  consecutive year, helping to make the lives of those with physical and mental challenges a little easier and their dreams more achievable. The campaign, set to begin in January of 2011, will run across the GCC in participating stores under the banner of ‘Step up for their dreams’. During the campaign, 1 dirham from every purchase of P&G’s participating brands (Ariel, Tide, Fairy, Downy, Pampers, Always, Pantene, H&S, Pert, Herbal Essences, Crest, Oral B, Olay, Camay, Wella, Gillette) will be donated to Special Olympics MENA.

 “We, at Special Olympics MENA, aim to transform communities by changing people’s perception of intellectual disabilities while promoting empowerment, competence and acceptance. Throughout the years we have been deeply touched by P&G’s unwavering support. It has brought great opportunities and joy to our much deserving athletes,” Special Olympics MENA Regional Director Ayman Wahab.

Dina Galal, an athlete and past Special Olympics Global Messenger, said; “So long as Special Olympics is supporting us we can fulfill our dreams, no matter how impossible those dreams may seem at the beginning.”

Special Olympics MENA serves intellectually disabled children and adults in 20 countries in the MENA region. The funds raised from P&G Gulf’s campaigns also support the Special Olympics MENA Games organized every two years and set to take place next in 2012. Demonstrating the power of coming together for a good cause, P&G Gulf’s celebrity endorsed “Step up for a dream” walks, organized last February in support of Special Olympics MENA, saw residents from across the four corners of the UAE and Saudi Arabia unite to show their support for the region’s disabled athletes. The event was a huge success and P&G Gulf is set to organize more special activities in support of this cause to be announced shortly.

By providing children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Arab world with opportunities to develop physical fitness and build self esteem, we are helping them achieve their dreams and live happy lives. Special Olympics is an international movement of year-round sports training and athletic competitions for more than 1.7 million children and adults with intellectual disabilities in over 150 countries. Globally, P&G has been a strong and active partner with Special Olympics over the past 30 years.
