Philips Demonstrates Their People-focused Approach During Saudi Medicare 2010
At Saudi Medicare 2010, Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) presented a wide range of healthcare solutions designed to address the needs of patients and healthcare providers in the Middle East. The exhibition is the 13th International Healthcare, Hospital Supplies and Medical Equipment show that took place from the 12th through the 15th of April.
The Healthcare industry around the world is faced with many challenges. In healthcare, treatment demand in the GCC alone will rise by 240% over the next 20 years, with the incidence of cardiovascular disease increasing dramatically by 419% over the same timeframe . Other chronic diseases are also on the rise, which will require greater numbers of diagnostic and treatment facilities.
These include diabetes; where patients in the country are projected to increase by 3.5% annually and oncology; specifically women’s diseases such as breast cancer which represents almost 20% of all cancers diagnosed among women in the Kingdom.
“The Middle East is seeing disease patterns evolve towards complex chronic disorders, due to factors such as an aging population and change in lifestyle, resulting in a shift away from traditional diets. The Middle East region currently has the world’s highest prevalence of diabetes , a major risk factor for heart disease. The region is also showing the fastest growth in the occurrence of cardiovascular disease ”, says Diederik Zeven, Senior Director and General Manager of Philips Healthcare Middle East.
Philips helps simplify the provision of cardiac care
At Philips, we simplify healthcare by combining our unique clinical expertise with insights into how patients and clinicians experience healthcare. In response we can develop more intuitive, and in the end better technology solutions to help take some of the complexity out of healthcare. This helps to drive better diagnosis, more appropriate treatment planning, faster patient recovery and long term health.
In cardiology we are focusing on four important areas that will help us improve healthcare delivery for patients with cardiac diseases: timely triage (solutions for fast, non-invasive evaluation of high risk cardiac patients) discovery to treatment (solutions that reduce door to balloon times for acute cardiac patients by clearing a path from discovery to treatment), minimally invasive interventions and connected healthcare solutions in the home for chronic heart patients.
Philips customizes women’s health solutions to requirements of the Middle East
Globally, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death amongst women. Philips offers leading-edge imaging and information management tools to help detect breast cancer, enhance clinical decisions and streamline workflow. Philips also has a complete portfolio of leading edge cardiology products, including non-invasive solutions to help detect heart disease symptoms in women.
Philips, in partnership with Smit Mobile Equipment, presented a mobile breast cancer screening vehicle specifically adapted to the requirements of patients and healthcare providers in the Middle East. This innovative mobile screening vehicle is designed to take into account the desired level of privacy and the often severe weather conditions in the region. It also features the Mammo Diagnost DR, Philips’ digital solution for mammography, designed for efficient high-volume screening.
Philips supports healthcare providers with home healthcare solutions
In Home healthcare, our aim is to improve comfort and compliance for those who suffer from sleep disordered breathing and chronic respiratory diseases. We are transforming home healthcare through innovative thinking—pioneering new solutions and improving the quality of life for patients in the home.
The number of people suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is also increasing in the Middle East, partly as a result of the increased occurrence of obesity. A leader in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, Philips Respironics presents its intelligent Sleep Therapy System to treat OSA in the region. Using intelligent technology, this new CPAP system simplifies patient management by monitoring patients and recognizing when therapy needs are changing, while offering greater patient comfort.
