Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) kicked off its two-week Asian Roadshow in Seoul this evening at the Lotte Hotel. QTA and leading members of the tourism industry in Qatar met with more than 65 travel trade professionals in Seoul to boost awareness of Qatar's tourism offerings as a destination for MICE travel (meetings, incentive, convention, exhibition), sport, culture and upscale leisure tourism.
Qatar Tourism Authority has been given the mandate by the Qatari government to organize, enable and supervise the tourism industry in Qatar. Under this mandate, QTA promotes Qatar as an upscale destination at international travel shows targeting the lucrative meetings, exhibitions, incentives and luxury travel industries.
Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of QTA said: "As a complement to our participation at international travel exhibitions, Qatar Tourism Authority has organized this roadshow throughout Asia to deepen our ties and to build new relationships with the tourism and travel professionals in Seoul and the other major cities on the tour. Through this roadshow we aim to build networks facilitating future business between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Korea."
"Our countries are strong trade partners in energy, industry and construction and there is a promising future for bilateral trade in other industries such as power, water and electronics. Some examples of our partnerships: we have engaged in cooperation related to technical capacity in Information and Communication Technologies as part of the 2007 MOU between our two nations. RasGas, Qatar's second largest liquefied natural gas producer, recently opened an office in Seoul. Earlier this year, Qatar Airways launched a direct flight between Doha and Incheon. Not only do we share business partnerships, we share some similarities: but both of our countries are rich cultural heritage and tradition yet embrace innovation and modernity; and we also share the same passion for sports. It is based on these similarities and partnerships that we hope to increase our cooperation in tourism."
Qatar Tourism Authority and its delegation held meetings during the afternoon with professionals from the business travel industry in Seoul. The event ended with an evening reception which was attended by H.E. Ali Hamad Mubarak Al Marri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Korea, as well as many ambassadors from the Middle East region based in Korea. Officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Tourism Organization were also present at the reception. A grand prize drawing took place with the winner being awarded a 48-hours trip to Doha compliments of Qatar Airways, accommodation at the Ritz Carlton Doha, a city tour by Unique Choice Travel and two VIP tickets to the Asian Football Cup. The winner of the grand prize was Ms. Mi-Young Choi, Assistant Manager of YBTour.
Many professionals from the Korean travel trade came to learn about Qatar for the first time. Mr. Kyo Hun Jin, President of NiceTrip and Ms. Jin Young Kim, Assistant Manager of NiceTrip are looking for new products to offer in their honeymoon packages. "We were glad to meet the different tourism organizations in Qatar to find out more about the hotels and the attractions. The Sharq Village & Spa is a particularly unique accommodation. There are some nice options in Qatar for us to consider when planning special vacations for our guests."
Mr. Sung-Bum Kim, Group Sales Supervisor of Gullivers Travel Associates, came to the event with his team. "We are glad we came. It is the first time we were introduced to Qatar in such a way – we are sure our clients will enjoy the attractions – culture, sports and leisure."
Qatar Tourism Authority is accompanied by a distinguished delegation from the hospitality, culture, sports and leisure sectors in Qatar. The delegation includes,Aspire Zone, the Asian Cup Qatar Committee, Fal Travelmart Travel and Tours, Grand Hyatt Doha, Grand Regency Hotel, Movenpick Tower & Suites, Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways Holidays, the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, Qatar International Adventures, Qatar International Tours, Regency Holidays, Ritz Carlton Doha, Shangri-La Hotel, Sharq Village & Spa, Unique Choice Qatar and the W Hotel Doha.
