Russian President Invites Kadhafi to Visit Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday invited Libyan leader Moammer Kadhafi to visit Moscow, the Libyan news agency, Jana, reported.
The invitation was delivered by Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, who arrived in Tripoli on Sunday and held talks with Kadhafi on ways of "strengthening bilateral links," Jana said, cited by Reuters.
"We give a paramount importance to your visit to Moscow in order to boost the relations between our countries in all fields of cooperation," Jana quoted Putin as saying in his message to Kadhafi.
The news agency did not say whether the invitation had been accepted.
Ivanov's trip to Tripoli, which ended on Monday, was part of Russian moves to boost ties with former Soviet allies, which also include countries such as Iran, Iraq and North Korea.
But Russia has angered the US for its growing cooperation with these countries, labeled by the US as “terrorism sponsors”– Albawaba.com
