Saudi Donates US $3m for Yemen’s De-mining Campaign
Saudi Arabia has announced that it will offer a sum of three million dollars as a financial support to the Government of Yemen.
The support, in form of assistance to the National De-mining Program will be paid to the account of the National De-mining Committee without going through the UN or its Development Program, said the Yemen Observer.
The announcement came after a meeting between Yemeni Minister of State Khaled Abdulwahab Al-Shareef and the Saudi Ambassador in Sana’a last Tuesday.
Shareef said in a statement that “the support came in the light of a meeting of donor states held in Sanaa in the presence of the Saudi ambassador.”
The diplomat, according to the paper, has also revealed that Saudi Emir Sultan bin Abdulaziz “has issued his instructions to support the de-mining project by offering $3 million to be equally divided annually.”
Quoting “reliable” sources, the daily said that “an area of 43 million square meters of land in the Republic of Yemen is planted with mines.” – Albawaba.com
