Seven Dead, Twenty Wounded in Violence in Algeria
Seven people were killed and 20 wounded on Friday and Saturday in attacks blamed on Islamic extremists and army clean up operations, the Algerian press reported Sunday.
Two people were killed late Friday by an armed group at a false roadblock near Hassi Ben Okba, a village just outside of Oran, west of the capital, reports said.
One person died Friday in a bomb explosion at Ain Dalia, some 130 kilometers south of the capital.
Two soldiers were killed and 20 wounded near Dellys, 70 kilometers east of Algiers, in mopping up operation against armed groups, the daily Es Sahafa said. An Islamic fundamentalist was killed in the incident.
A forester was killed in a bomb explosion Saturday at Sidi Daoud, in the same region, the papers said.
About 1,000 people have been reported killed in Algeria, including some 200 Islamic extremists, since a six-month amnesty called by the government for the fighters expired on January 13th - ALGIERS (AFP)
