Under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, the General Organisation of Sea Ports (GOP) will host the official inauguration of the Kingdom’s new state-of-the- art Khalifa Bin Salman port on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, Chairman of the GOP, announced the date of the opening event, which will be attended by top-level Government officials, dignitaries, diplomats, senior executives from Bahrain’s private sector and GOP partners and stakeholders in the maritime and logistics industries, including APM Terminals Bahrain, the port operator.
Shaikh Daij said, “The Organisation has been in the process of preparation for this event for a few months now, and is coordinating with various governmental institutions to ensure the successful implementation of this landmark event. The Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) is the first multi-functional facility that is focused on import, export and re-exports and value added services. With this new port, Bahrain’s position as a gateway to the region is even further strengthened, serving as a boost to our marine and logistics services on a local, regional, and international level. This will effectively contribute in achieving the objectives of Bahrain’s 2030 vision.
“The Khalifa Bin Salman Port is considered to be one of the most important and advanced ports in the Gulf region. It is also one of the most vital infrastructure projects that aims to enhance various economic sectors, particularly the commercial, industrial, and investment sectors in the Kingdom. The port will also help promote Bahrain’s strategic location as a regional and international commercial and financial hub,” said Shaikh Daij.
The Khalifa bin Salman Port occupies an area of 110 hectares of reclaimed land and is located on the north-east of the Kingdom of Bahrain, only 13 kilometers away from Bahrain International Airport, and it is also linked to the road leading to the King Fahd Causeway. The port provides sea freight, shipping, and logistic services in accordance to the highest international specifications and standards in the industry.
