Spanish Woman Jailed in Dubai for Heroin Smuggling
A court in the emirate of Dubai has jailed a Spanish woman for 15 years on charges of smuggling more than two kilos (4.4 pounds) of heroin, a newspaper reported Thursday.
The Gulf Today said she was caught carrying the drug hidden in two juice bottles at Dubai airport in transit between Islamabad and Madrid.
The criminal court also fined the woman 100,000 dirhams (27,250 dollars) and ordered her expulsion upon completion of sentence.
Several foreigners have been sentenced to death in the United Arab Emriates under a 1995 law that lays down capital punishment for drug trafficking.
But no executions -- normally by firing squad in the UAE -- have been announced for narcotics crimes -- (AFP)
