Student protests over political crisis banned in Iran
Iran banned student protests over the barring of reformist candidates from this month's elections and Tehran's hardline prosecutor warned eight pro-reform newspapers about their reporting of the political crisis.
The ban and warning was reported by the student news agency ISNA and official IRNA agency.
On Sunday, the pro-democracy Islamic Association of Tehran's branches in the main and medical universities said they had sought a permit to stage a gathering at the gate of the capital's main campus on Wednesday.
"No gathering will be allowed outside the entrance of Tehran University," ISNA quoted Ali Taala, director of political and security affairs for the Tehran region as saying.
No authorization for a rally at that spot has been issued for several years because of traffic problems in the district," he added. (Albawaba.com)
