Syria, Egypt mark 32nd anniversary of ”Victory War”
Syrian armed forces marked on Thursday the 32nd anniversary of "October War of Liberation". Military parades as well sports competitions held to commemorate the anniversary, while army leaders met soldiers to talk about October War importance.
According to SANA, army leaders underlined that the policy followed by Syria has proved its “credibility and capability,” to face challenges and urgent circumstances despite the "brutal attack staged by enemies of the Arab nation."
They said that “Syria would go ahead in its policy to restore its rights and liberate its occupied land while sticking to its principals to achieve the just and comprehensive peace according to the UN resolutions."
During the celebrations, President Bashar al-Assad visited the Martyr's Memorial on Kassion Mount in Damascus. He was received by Deputy Commander in Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, and Minister of Defense, Lt. Gen. Hassan Tourkmani and Chief of the General Staff, Habib Mahmoud. Assad reviewed the guards of honor while a 21 -gun salute sounded in honor of the martyrs.
Meanwhile, in Cairo, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that October War memory would remain for ever in "hearts and minds of the Arab nation sons and its victories would be celebrated decade after decade."
In a speech on the October War anniversary, Mubarak noted that the 1973 victory was a “distinctive mark in the homeland history and would remain so." He saluted souls of the martyrs who offered their lives to "salvage homeland and restore the land and dignity.”
