Syrian Baath ruling party was expected to decide Wednesday to refer to court another former Syrian official on corruption charges, according to political sources.
The sources, who asked for anonymity, told Albawaba.com that the national leadership of the party was likely to send to trial Rashid Ikhtarini, former second deputy of prime minister for services, and order the sequestering of his assets.
The expected decision would come as part of an anti-corruption campaign the Syrian government is waging that has seen so far the arrests of a number of senior officials, including the former prime minister Mahmoud Zu’bi, who killed himself ten days ago.
Arab Media sources said Tuesday that Ikhtarini was apprehended at the Syrian-Turkish borders while trying to flee the country after a word came to him that he was on the black list – Damascus, Albawaba.com
