Syrian Foreign Minister to Visit Austria
Syrian Foreign Minister Faruq al-Shara flew to Austria on Tuesday for discussions on "the deteriorating situation" in the Palestinian territories, the official SANA news agency reported.
His trip to Vienna comes in response to an invitation from his Austrian counterpart, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the agency added.
Shara will discuss "the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories," according to the agency.
He is scheduled to also call on "the European Union to shoulder its responsibility in the shaping up of an international position, which would contribute in putting an end to Israel's aggressive policy against the Palestinian people," SANA said.
Austrian President Thomas Klestil last October met in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The two leaders called for a resumption of the Middle East peace process as part of the war on terrorism declared following the September 11 attacks on the United States. (Albawaba.com)
