Trial operation to start at Iran’s first nuclear power plant
Iran’s first nuclear power plant is to begin its pilot stage operation as of February 25 in the presence of Iranian and Russian officials, it was reported on Sunday. According to IRNA, the 1,000-MW power plant which is being built with the help of Russia, is situated in the southern province of Bushehr.
Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Reza Aqazadeh and Director of Rosatom State Atomic Corporation of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko will be present in the ceremony to start the trial operation of the power plant. Based on the previously agreed timetable, the long-awaited project was expected to become operational in fall of 2008. However, its construction was delayed for various reasons.
After the inauguration of the project, Kiriyenko is to inspect various parts of the power plant.
