Tunisia to Have its First Municipal Elections
Tunisian voters will head Sunday for the first time to elect their representatives in the local and municipal councils, said ArabicNews.com Saturday.
The agency quoted a Tunisian official as saying that "these elections are taking place for the first time after changes to Tunisian elections laws, which specify that a minimum of 20% of the seats should be designated for independents and factional opposition and 20% for women and youths."
The progressive socialist assembly party decided to boycott the elections due to the absence of what they consider "elements of a neutral and clean process in addition to objection against the latest amendments for the electoral laws in Tunis," said the agency, quoting a member of the socialist assembly party - Albawaba.com
