Turkey arrests 59 illegal immigrants
Police in Turkey detained 59 illegal immigrants, the majority of them Iraqis, on board a truck near Kusadasi on the Aegean coast in western Turkey, the Anatolia news agency reported Wednesday.
The immigrants include 39 Iraqis, 17 Indians and three Sri Lankans. They were trying to make their way to Western Europe and will be deported, the agency said. Dozens of illegal immigrants are arrested on a daily basis in Turkey, which is a major transit for would-be immigrants from Asia and Africa hoping for a better life in the wealthier West.
