Revealed: UAE torture of suspected Egyptian terrorists in their care
Details of an alleged campaign of torture against the Egyptian terrorist suspects arrested late last year have emerged, after a Twitter user, widely believed to be an Emirati intelligence insider, leaked the information online.
@tameh0, an anonymous Twitter user who describes himself as holding “the keys to the political palaces and intelligence houses” of the UAE began posting information about the torture methods used late last week.
In all, ten previous cases of torture were mentioned as well as the recent Egyptian detainees thought to be linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.
The netizen, know as Tameh Mujtahidd in reference to the anonymous Saudi intelligence insider, claimed that all those referenced were in the Qasr al-Manhal prison, in Abu Dhabi, controlled by the crown prince, Mohammad Bin Zayed and UAE minister of the interior, Saif Bin Zayed.
Methods of torture reportedly include nail pulling, beatings, sensory deprivation and hallucinogenic drugs.
According to @tameh0 "Egyptian intelligence officers are supervising the torture of the Egyptian detainees in Qasr al-Manhal."
He added that some of the Egyptian officer names' were: “Wael Hussein Abdil Fattah Saed, Officer Ra'ed Mohammed Hisham Al-Ashram, Captain Mustafa Bahgat Abdil Khaleq"
UAE vice president and governor of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reportedly met with a senior Egyptian delegation earlier this month to discuss the arrest of the eleven Egyptians accused of forming a Brotherhood terrorist cell in the emirate.
In September last year, international NGO, Human Rights Watch, put out a damning report about enforced disappearances and torture in the UAE.
The document included claims that two Syrian nationals were tortured in the emirate, despite the UAE signing up to the United Nations Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment just two months previously.
The UAE’s Interior Ministry refused to comment on the claims when contacted on Monday.
