U.N: Over 5000 killed in Syria
Navi Pillay United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said, over 5,000 people have been killed in the uprising against the Syrian regime. Navi Pillay added some 14,000 people have been arrested and 12,400 fled to neighboring countries.
She told reporters that out of the 5,000 dead more than 300 were children. According to her, the Syrian regime’s crackdown should be referred to the International Criminal Court.
On his part, Syria’s ambassador to the UN dismissed the latest figures, saying Pillay was “not objective and “not fair”. Bashar Jaafari, Syria’s UN ambassador, said Pillay's remarks were part of a “huge conspiracy concocted against Syria since the beginning” and “narrow state interests”.
