UNRWA Reducing Jordan Services due to Lack of Cash
The cash-trapped United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) has been forced to reduce basic services to Palestinian refugees in Jordan due to the financial crisis it is has been facing over the years, an UNRWA official was quoted as saying by the official Petra news agency on Monday.
"The budget deficit and the acute shortage of cash money facing the agency have, in a way or another, led to reducing the level of its services provided to Palestinian refugees in Jordan, said William Lee, the agency’s operations director.
The retraction in services mainly affected educational and health services, Lee added.
“Scholarship programs have been cancelled, school classrooms have become more compacted,” the official told the agency.
Entry to hospitals has also been revoked and doctors at health centers and outpatient clinics are working under heavy pressure, he said, adding that the number of patients attending these centers sometimes reached 150 per day for each doctor – Albawaba.com
