US based National Authority and Research Pharmacist to speak at "Qatar Health 2010"
In its efforts to cover a wide range of medical and healthcare disciplines, Qatar Health 2010 has announced the participation of a leading expert in Pharmacy practices. Katherine Knapp, PhD, who is a Professor; and the Director of the Center for Pharmacy Practice, Western University of Health Sciences, will deliver a lecture titled "Implementing Research in Pharmacy Practice" during the Pharmacy track at Qatar Health 2010 this December.
Dr. Knapp's topic will cover how the role of the pharmacist has evolved over the past few decades. Typically, Pharmacists advise patients and health care providers on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of medications. Pharmacists monitor the health and progress of patients to ensure the safe and effective use of medication and thereby provide a valuable extension to the healthcare service delivered to patients.
"Pharmaceutical care is a rapidly evolving field that covers the responsible provision of drug therapy in order to treat specific ailments and improve patients' quality of life," said Dr Moza Al Hail, Director of Pharmacy – Women's Hospital (a member of Hamad Medical Corporation) and Chairman of the Pharmacy track at Qatar Health 2010. "We are delighted to have a range of internationally renowned experts share their knowledge on pharmacy practices with us to encourage greater awareness of this important field and ensure more accountability of healthcare professionals."
"We are looking to raise the profile of pharmacists and pharmacy practices in the Middle East and encourage qualified pharmacists and students of pharmacy to attend these lectures," added Dr. Al Hail.
"Pharmacists can contribute broadly to better use of medications and better health outcomes for those using medications. Research that measures health outcomes, quality of life outcomes and economic outcomes in new practice models involving pharmacists will inform the evolution of and expand the role of pharmacists in healthcare," advised Dr. Knapp. "I was honored to be invited to the QH2010 Congress to share research and practice initiatives in the United States with partners from other countries who deal with similar issues regarding the roles of pharmacists in achieving better health outcomes."
