A US senior official told AFP Wednesday that US and Russian officials will meet with UN Special Representative for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, early next month to prepare for a full Syria peace conference in the Swiss capital.
The meeting in Geneva is scheduled for November fifth. According to the report, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman and US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford will be included in the US delegation.
During his meeting with Jordan's foreign minister, Nasser Judeh, Brahimi said there is no military solution to end the conflict, emphasizing that a political solution was the only way "to end the nightmare in Syria."
Brahimi, along with the US and Russia delegations, thus hope that the November fifth meeting in Geneva will be used to prepare the necessary platform to achieve a political solution through the proposed Syria peace conference.
