Witnesses: Israeli Soldiers Raided West Bank School, Clashed with Students
Dozens of Israeli soldiers stormed a Palestinian school in the West Bank on Sunday searching for a gunman allegedly hiding inside, sparking clashes with students, witnesses said.
Residents of the Arab village of Teqoa near the West Bank town of Bethlehem said some 30 Israeli soldiers entered the school, which teaches boys aged between six and 17, to track down a gunman who had shot at them.
Soldiers fired teargas to disperse students trying to stop them from entering the school grounds and witnesses said a local Palestinian official was hurt while trying to block the soldiers.
Hundreds of parents in the village gathered in protest outside the school, where some 500 students and 23 teachers were kept inside by the soldiers.
The army had no immediate confirmation of the incident -- BETHLEHEM, West Bank (AFP)
