Security and military sources have said that a suicide car bomber has killed 12 soldiers and wounded six others in an attack on a military command center in southern Yemen's Abyan province.

Yemen has seen fierce fighting between groups affiliated to Al-Qaeda and the military. Only last month, two militants and one pro-government militiaman were killed in a gun battle.
Yemen’s militias hail from its tribal areas and fight alongside the army. Their support was crucial in driving out Al-Qaeda militants from the major cities of Abyan province after a bloody one year battle.
