A new U.N. Human Rights Council report warns of widening sectarian conflict in Syria.
It said that communities are arming themselves because they feel at risk, and “ethnic and religious minority groups have increasingly aligned themselves with parties to the conflict, deepening sectarian divides.”
It has been widely noted that monarchies have done better at surviving the Arab uprisings that began two years ago.
No Arab monarch has yet lost his throne. For some analysts and academics, this pattern suggests a fairly obvious "monarchical exception" which demands explanation.
