The Syrian Aviation Public Authority reported that 2,800 airplanes had landed and taken off at the Syrian airports in June 2000, compared to 2,477 airplanes during the corresponding month of last year. These figures, appearing in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, translates into a 13 percent increase.
The authority reported also that during the period in question, 2,367 tons of cargo were shipped via the airports in Syria, with 1,319 tons departing the country and 1,048 tons arriving. These figures, compared to the 2,334 tons in June 1999, reflect a 1.4 percent increase. In addition, the quantity of airmail shipped via these airports grew to 29 tons this June from only 12 tons last June.
Furthermore, the passenger movement for this period totaled 167,195, with 97,385 passengers arriving into the country, 69,810 departing and 10,565 transit passengers traveling via Syrian airports. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
