Bahrain's Ministry of Education (MOE) is all set to embrace information technology in a big way in the public schools of Bahrain. This development will be achieved with the help of Integrated Technology Group (ITG), Jordan, and Bahrain based premier IT services and solutions company, Apple Centre, a division of business conglomerate, Almoayyed International Group (AIG).
Apple Centre and ITG Tuesday entered into a multi-million dollar agreement with the Ministry of Education, to deploy ITG’s e-Learning Platform EduWave in the Kingdom’s public schools countrywide, serving around a quarter of a million users. The contract was awarded to Apple Centre and ITG after competing in a large tender against 23 regional and international vendors. The project is to be implemented in phases. The first phase will be launched in September 2004, allowing a number of schools to start using EduWave as their official e-learning platform. Under this agreement, ITG will conduct specialized teacher training. The firm will also develop e-content for the Bahraini curricula grades 1-12, to be implemented through ITG’s new media subsidiary, JAID Productions.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mohammed Almoayyed, Director, AIG, said, ” This is a proud moment for us. Through our strategic alliance with ITG, both companies will deliver the solution that best aligns with MOE’s future goals and requirements”.
EduWave is a web-based, end-to-end e-learning platform, fully developed by ITG. EduWave is available in two editions (K-12) and (Higher-Ed), and includes a Learning Management System (LMS), a Content Management System (CMS), an Instructional Management System (IMS), and a Student Information System (SIS). The UN World Summit Award winner, EduWave is deployed in Jordan, countrywide, serving 1.5 million users, and in a number of school districts in the US state of New Jersey.
Commenting on the solution, ITG’s CEO, Mr. Walid Tahabsem said, “ITG’s development of EduWave was more than just business. It is also about the firm’s profound belief in transforming educational institutions worldwide towards a new era of innovative web-based learning, fulfilling the promise of empowering learners everywhere through the latest technologies as a means to gain extraordinary knowledge”.
Also present on the occasion, Mr. Asif Mohd. Irfan, General Manager, Apple Centre, added, “Through EduWave’s deployment, Bahrain will be the first country in the Gulf region to transform its educational system into the new era of teaching & learning where students, teachers, administrators and parents are empowered by the capabilities of the latest in e-learning technology”.
