Work on dilapidated houses in the Central Governorate is being delayed by up to four months, according toi councillors, cited by the GDN. They say paying rent allowances for families to live elsewhere until the work is done is also pushing Central Municipal Council into the red.
At present, there are two separate plans for dilapidated houses. The first is King Hamad's Scheme for Dilapidated Homes, which intends to renovate 6,000 dilapidated houses nationwide in five years, at a cost of around BD120 million.
The other is the remodelling scheme, which includes minor renovations, such as structural repairs, extensions or redecorating.
