A senior official at the Dubai Rent Committee revealed that though the maximum rent increase in the emirate stands at 15 percent, tenants have the right to challenge it.
"Fifteen per cent has been the maximum rent increase limit on any property since the rent cap order came into effect in November last year. But the tenants have the right to challenge it if they do not agree even on the 15 per cent," said Mohammad Ahmad Al Shaikh, General Secretary of the Dubai Rent Committee according to Gulf News.
Al Shaikh pointed out that tenants must appeal to the rent committee if such a matter arises.
"We cannot do anything until we receive complaints from the aggrieved parties," he said.
Also, he said, even if the existing rent cap rule expires on December 31, tenants can still challenge rent increase if they consider it unjustified.
