In an effort to provide better services and easier access to citizens, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has launched an Internet e-mail account whereby public complaints and inquiries are answered within 48 hours, a GAM official said on Sunday.
Hassan Jasser, head of the Research and Development Department at GAM, said the municipality has already started receiving public inquiries and that staff will be working around the clock to provide answers within less than 48 hours.
Jasser said the move for such a service falls in line with efforts by Mayor Nidal Hadid and the municipality to develop its field performance, become part of the world of information technology and ensure better communication channels with the public.
He said a special team was charged with receiving and following up on inquiries. The mayor's aides will also reply to enquiries. “As for e-mails related to strategic issues, they are referred to the mayor himself for answers,” Jasser added. The e-mail address is: MOGAMMAN@go.com.jo
The municipality has also started its new electronic phone answering system. “The citizen can call in, get the information required and have all his or her inquiries on the paper work or documents answered,” Jasser said adding that the automatic phone exchange operates on a 24-hour basis.
The municipality earlier conducted a study on its departments, especially those that have direct contact with citizens, and made a list of the most contacted ones and the paper work needed as well as a list of the usual clientele.
The exchange, which provides the caller with the complete addresses and phone numbers of GAM departments and workers, also provides the number of traffic violations for private, public, rental and government vehicles as well as the amount of fines due and the license expiry date. The automatic inquiry or dial number is 465-0900.
“The goal of two services is to provide the public with fast service and not waste the time and efforts of both GAM employees and the citizens,” Jasser added. ― (Jordan Times )
