Egypt's tourism Minister Hesham Zaazou decided to stop incoming flights from Iran until the second half of June to reconsider a recent move to promote tourism between the two countries.
“We are re-evaluating our tourism programs with Iran,” Zaazou said Sunday.
Aswan International Airport had received the first charter flight from Iran on 30 March , carrying 45 Iranian tourists, for the first time in 33 years , in an implementation of a tourism convention recently signed between the two countries.
Previously icy relations between Egypt and Iran began to warm this year under President Mohamed Morsy’s leadership, with a visit from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Al-Azhar last month.
Egypt halted relations with Iran after the country’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.
