The republic of Egypt received 90 percent more tourists during the month of March compared with figures from the same period last year. Hotel reservations also rose by 98.5 percent in March, reported KUNA.
According to Egyptian Tourism Minister, Mamdouh El-Beltagi the Israeli incursion in the Palestinian territories last month caused some cancellations of reservations and the upcoming summer season is expected to be slow.
Arab visitors represent 20 to 25 percent of Egypt’s tourism traffic, ranking in second place after European travelers. The government aims to attract 9.5 million tourists into the country by 2005. Egypt received 4.65 million tourists in 2001. — (menareport.com)
