The Egyptian International Fairs and Market Public Authority is expected is organizing an Egyptian Products Fair in the Iranian capital of Tehran from June 27 to July 2, 2001. Over 30 private-sector Egyptian companies and government firms have thus far confirmed their participation in this exhibition, according to reports in Al-Sharq Al-Aswat daily.
Mahmoud Al-Arabi, head of the Egyptian Trade Chamber, stated that the Tehran fair was a natural follow-up to the strong participation of Iran in the Cairo International Fair held this past March.
The Egyptian government also stated that the fair marks the renewal of Iranian-Egyptian ties broken in 1979 following the Iranian Islamic revolution. An Egyptian Trade Ministry spokesman was quoted as saying that Iranian investment in Egypt was expected to rise in the near future.
The fair will be situated on a 2,000 square meter area, and will offer free access to the public. Participating Egyptian companies will display clothing goods, textiles, furniture, food products, various herbs, as well as pharmaceuticals. In addition, workshops and symposiums will be take place to discuss further economic cooperation between the two states. — (MENA Report)
