The 16th edition of GITEX Shopper & Consumer Electronics Expo 2006, the undisputed leader in technology-retailing in the Middle East, will offer the most exciting range of products including laptops, PCs, mobile phones, cameras, gaming & entertainment, consumer electronics, home entertainment, office automation and a host of latest digital mobility products from around the world to consumers in a fun-filled environment, according to organiser Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
The ultimate shopping platform in the region and the consumer arm of the 26th edition of GITEX 2006, is scheduled to be held from 18-24 November 2006 at the Airport Expo Dubai in a total gross area of 22,000 sq meters.
With more than 120,000 buyers expected to attend this action packed high-energy event, the exhibition will see approximately 150 vendors, distributors and resellers battling it out with their latest launches, best deals and spectacular promotions, all under one roof.
“Digital mobility has taken the world by storm and in the Middle East, GITEX Shopper has become the most eagerly-awaited event for business and home users who are keen to avail of the latest launches and fantastic offers made by the retailing giants in the region,” said DWTC Director General, Helal Saeed Al Marri. This year too there will be an array of prizes, raffles, easy payment facilities, credit card promotions and instant cash prizes, he added.
Riding this momentum will be laptops with Intel Core 2 Duo processors - two processing cores or computing 'brains' that can handle multiple tasks in less time while consuming less power. This means cooler, sleeker or smaller systems besides improved performance for videos, gaming, and multimedia activities-especially when running multiple applications simultaneously.
According to US retailer PC world, laptops are outselling desktop PCs for the first time. Between April and May this year, 55% of sales were laptops, 45% desktops, compared to a 40:60 ratio during the April-May 2005 period. Demand for greater flexibility to watch films or use the internet in different rooms making use of broadband WiFi networks have been attributed as reasons for an increased appeal for laptops, which has also led to lower desktop prices.
Besides laptops, mobile phones, PDAs and other digital mobility devices will also be offered by a large number of retailers at GITEX Shopper. According to international market research firm IDC, worldwide shipments of cell phones rose 26% in the first quarter of 2006 compared with the same period last year. Leading brands in the mobile phone sector are expected to offer mobile devices with additional features at this year’s GITEX Shopper.
GITEX Shopper is not sales alone as one can find the latest designs and new technologies and more importantly the event offers best value for money without compromise on quality.
Retailers are expected to offer a far wider range of products than before including in Information Technology, Consumer Electronics, Gaming & Entertainment, Office Automation and Digital Mobility.
GITEX Shopper 2005 attracted the participation of 140 exhibitors representing more than 4,000 companies from 15 countries. The show also received a total of 117, 994 visitors.
As per exhibitor feedback, the seven-day IT retail extravaganza last year raked in sales in excess of AED72million (US$19.61 million), marking approximately 30% increase in transactions over the 2004 edition. The 2006 Shopper is expected to see an unprecedented surge in transactions owing to the rapid growth in the region’s economy and the phenomenal buying power of the Middle East consumer.
The show attracts buyers from all the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as well as Iran, India, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt and the CIS.
GITEX Shopper has established itself as the single largest retail platform for technology in the Middle East and this year has an expanded profile of that includes Information Technology, Consumer Electronics, Digital Mobility, Gaming and Entertainment, Office Automation and Telecommunications.
GITEX Shopper & Consumer Electronics Expo takes place on the 18-24 November 2006 and will be open from 11.00am to 9.00pm from Saturday to Thursday at the Airport Expo Dubai.
